Children have a natural curiosity and a love for learning. Here are some ways to help children develop a love for learning:
1. Make learning hands-on and experiential: Children often enjoy learning through
hands-on experiences that involve active participation. Encourage exploration and
discovery by providing opportunities for sensory play, experiments, field trips, and
interactive projects. For example, instead of just reading about plants, take your child
to a garden where they can see and touch different plants, observe insects, and
actively participate in planting and caring for their own little garden. By engaging
their senses and involving them in the learning process, children become more
invested and excited about acquiring new knowledge. Check out your local library,
the zoo and garden centre to see what activities they offer in the holidays.
2. Tap into their interests and passions: Children are naturally more inclined to learn
about topics that genuinely interest them. Pay attention to their interests and passions
and incorporate those into their learning experiences. If a child loves dinosaurs,
provide books, toys, and activities related to dinosaurs. Encourage them to ask
questions, conduct research, and explore their interests further. When children see that
learning can be connected to the things they are passionate about, they become more
enthusiastic and motivated to acquire knowledge in those areas.
